Visual Research Board: I’ve always felt that Romeo and Juliet was a very primal play, and I love that our director, Chris DuVal, describes it as “muscular.” To me, that feels strong, rugged, sharp, gritty. Hot days feel very hot. Deep night feels very isolated, intimate, warm, then cold. People react to the heat of the day, the deep night, and the dawn; they carry raw emotion and act on those gut level emotions in a very primal way. The lighting needs to evoke this state in color, texture and composition.
