In Fall 2021, The DU Theatre Department and the DU Prison Arts Initiative created a collaborative staged reading with current DU Theatre student actors and incarcerated actors zoomed in from the Sterling Correctional Facility. The production featured a full lighting and sound design to capture the mood and composition of the world of Our Town while actors used scripts on music stands in the style of a more traditional staged reading. We faced many technical challenges in coordinating lights, sound, and livestream video but ultimately we achieved a fascinating evening of theatre. The post-show audience talkback allowed our community members to talk and ask questions of our incarcerated artists and student participants.
